College Scholarships

The NVREC Board of Directors voted in a recent board meeting to offer additional scholarships to focus on students planning to attend a two-year school or trade school.

There will be a total of up to $7,000 in college scholarships awarded by the Nishnabotna Valley Foundation and Basin Electric Power Cooperative for the 2024-2025 school year. Dependents of NVREC member-owners are also eligible for a $1,000 scholarship through our power supplier Basin Electric Power Cooperative in Bismarck, ND.

The Nishnabotna Valley Foundation has one $1,000 scholarship available to all area students enrolled in or planning to attend an accredited Electrical Lineworker program. The student must be a graduate of a high school within Nishnabotna Valley REC's service territory. Please contact Nishnabotna Valley REC to see if you qualify and to apply for this scholarship.

The Nishnabotna Valley Foundation is also offering three $1,000 scholarships for students enrolled or planning to enroll in a four-year college or university. Students must be a dependent of a member-owner of Nishnabotna Valley REC to qualify. Students may qualify for this scholarship only once.

The foundation now has up to three $1,000 scholarships for students enrolled or planning to enroll in two-year technical school given priority. Again, eligible students must be a dependent of a member-owner of Nishnabotna Valley REC, and students may only qualify for this scholarship once.

Recipients of the scholarships will be chosen based on a combination of school attendance, ACT or SAT scores and overall grade point average, work experience, participation in school and community activities, career goals, an essay written by the applicant about his/her understanding of the cooperative business model, and a written recommendation by a third party.

All entries must reach the REC office no later than Friday, February 23, 2024.
