College Scholarships

Nishnabotna Valley Foundation has EIGHT $500 college scholarships available to any student whose parents live in the Nishnabotna Valley Rural Electric Cooperative service territory. Up to four of those $500 scholarships will be used to support a student participating in 2-year technical degree institution.

 

In addition, Basin Electric Power Cooperative has a $1,000 scholarship available to a student of a member of Nishnabotna Valley REC.

Applicants must have the following qualifications:

  • Must submit applications no later than February 10, 2023 to NVREC Scholarship Committee, PO Box 714, Harlan, IA 51537

  • For Nishnabotna Valley Foundation Scholarship, student must be a dependent of residents in one of the counties that Nishnabotna Valley Rural Electric Cooperative serves

  • For Basin Scholarship, student must be a dependent of a member-owner of NVREC

  • To be eligible for both, student must apply for both Basin and NVF scholarships separately; download both applications below

  • Enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate or graduate course of study at an accredited, two-year or four-year college, university or vocational/technical school.

Scholarships are awarded without regard to other awards, loans or financial assistance the applicant may have obtained. College freshmen through graduate students may apply. The nine scholarships are not limited to first year college students. The recipients of the scholarships are chosen by a selection committee appointment by Nishnabotna Valley REC, whose decisions are final. Their selection is based on the following:

  • SAT/ACT scores and overall grade point average

  • Participation in school and community activities

  • A personal statement of career goals

  • An essay about their understanding of the Co-op business model

  • A written recommendation by a third party
