Annual Program Sends High School Students to Washington

What Is Youth Tour?
Youth Tour is a program that sends high school students to Washington, DC, every summer. The winning applicant will represent Nishnabotna Valley REC and join about 35 other high school students from other distribution cooperatives across the State of Iowa. They will then be joined by approximately 1,600 other participants from around the country.
Why do electric cooperatives send students to Washington, D.C., each year?
Because Cooperatives are different! Giving back to the community is part of every electric cooperative’s business plan!
What do students do on the trip?
Students on the tour learn about electric cooperatives, American history, and U.S. government. They visit with their representatives in the House and the Senate and see the sights around Washington, D.C.
