Outage Information
If the power goes out
- Check your home’s breaker panel (and any outdoor disconnects) to make sure the outage is not on your side of the service (past our main meter).
- Check to see if your neighbors are without electricity. Even if they have electricity, don’t hesitate to call Nishnabotna Valley REC.
- To report a power outage, call 712-755-2166 or 800-234-5122. After office hours calls should go to 800-234-5122.
- Give your name, telephone number and a call back number, account number and 911 address. If you have more than one active account, know which account number serves each location.
- Report any visible cause of the outage (e.g., tree limb on the line, downed line, etc.).
In case of extended outages
- Catastrophes like ice, snow and windstorms may cause extended outages. Rest assured that Nishnabotna Valley REC will restore power as quickly as possible.
- It is wise to be prepared for an extended outage. Keep flashlights and portable radios on hand with extra batteries. Keep freezer and refrigerator doors closed to prevent food spoilage. Food will keep for long periods of time if doors are kept shut. Be extra careful with candles, kerosene lamps, heaters or fireplaces.
- Have a supply of water on hand if you depend on a well. If it’s winter, try to keep door openings to a minimum and have sleeping bags and extra clothes available to keep warm.
