Scholarships

Nishnabotna Valley Foundation has four $500 college scholarships available to any student whose parents live in the Nishnabotna Valley Rural Electric Cooperative service territory. In addition, Basin Electric Power Cooperative has a $1,000 scholarship available to a student of a member of Nishnabotna Valley REC.
Applicants must have the following qualifications:
- Must submit applications no later than February 10, 2012 to NVREC Scholarship Committee, PO Box 714, Harlan, IA 51537
- Must be U.S. citizens
- Must be dependents of residents in the Nishnabotna Valley Rural Electric Cooperative service area
- Must apply for both scholarships separately; download both applications below
- Enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate or graduate course of study at an accredited, two-year or four-year college, university or vocational/technical school.
Scholarships are awarded without regard to other awards, loans or financial assistance the applicant may have obtained. College freshmen through graduate students may apply. The five scholarships are not limited to first year college students. The recipients of the scholarships are chosen by a selection committee appointment by Nishnabotna Valley REC, whose decisions are final. Their selection is based on the following:
- SAT/ACT scores and overall grade point average
- Participation in school and community activities
- A personal statement of career goals
- A written recommendation by a third party
